Florida's new laws hit the books
It's a new year in Florida, at least for law enforcement, as dozens of new laws officially hit the books tomorrow. ABC 27's Rebecca Baer joins us now with an overview. Sixty-five new laws will go into effect in florida tomorrow including one for a murdered Tallahassee police informant.
That one, known as Rachel' s Law is named for FSU grad Rachel Hoffman. It's meant to better protect confidential informants. It requires police departments to warn ci's about the dangers and ensures their access to an attorney.
Also tomorrow, smokers will see a one dollar increase in the state cigarette tax. This on top of the sixty two cent federal tax hike that went into effect in april.
