Guiding Good Choices, a five-week interactive workshop for parents, is set to begin next month.
The workshop will be held at 6 p.m. at the Carrabelle Boys and Girls Club on Tuesday, Sept. 1 and the following four Tuesday evenings.
Participants will learn and practice skills for setting clear family guidelines, strengthening family bonds, helping children develop healthy behaviors, developing strategies to help your children avoid drug use and other adolescent problem behaviors, and increasing your children’s involvement in the family.

Simultaneously, LeMoyne will showcase the Windows Art Project, a fund-raising project for the museum. Finally, the Hoover Gallery will host works by Jitka Lesakova-Manousakis, a fiber artist who works by layering fibers and threads to achieve depth.
Join us for a free Pancake Breakfast at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The event will be held at the Education Cabin near the Visitor's Center. Come learn about the refuge's fall events, updates and volunteer opportunities.

The All-Veterans cookout will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at Battery Park in Apalachicola.
Hosted by the Franklin County Vietnam Veterans, the annual event is open to all military veterans and their families. Under the direction of founders Charles Wilson and the late Frank Page, the cookout traditionally was held in the middle of summer.

The ninth annual Dr. Bass’ Large Mouth Open Golf Tournament will
be held Monday, September 14th at Golden Eagle Country Club.
Proceeds benefit Big Bend Hospice. Individual players and team
sponsorships are available for an 8:00am morning shotgun or 1:30pm
afternoon shotgun. Play for a chance to win exciting prizes from local golf clubs and retailers. This event funds direct patient care and provides grief support for children and teens.

Finally, the Hoover Gallery will host works by Jitka Lesakova-Manousakis, a fiber artist who works by layering fibers and threads to achieve depth.

Presentations will be: "Affordable Collecting", "Beggining and Building", and "What's My Art Worth?" A guided tour of the Vernacular Art from the Hill Collection will be available after the seminar, free of Charge, at 1:15 pm for interested participants.

Rock By The Sea is planning a Charity Golf Tournament on September 18, 2009 at St. James Bay Golf Club in Carrabelle. We will be raising money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Program at UF, the Franklin County Humane Society and support Lyrics for Life Day with music at Harry A's after the Tournament. We have a week end of music planned. It is a smaller event than our April event, but we have a great line up planned with Sam Thacker, Tim Brantley, the Sarah Mac Band and more.

The 20th Annual Coastal Cleanup program will be held in Franklin County on Saturday, and volunteers are needed to clean up Franklin County’s coast. If you would like to help, you can contact the Apalachicola Bay and Riverkeepers Group for all the information. That number is 653-8936 or you can e-mail them at Riverkeeper@apalachicolariverkeeper.org. The annual cleanup campaign helps remove thousands of pounds of trash from area beaches.

The Big Bend Homeless Coalition's HOPE Community provides transitional housing and services to families and individuals moving out of homelessness, toward self-sufficiency, and into homes. Stein Mart and The Salvation Army will conduct their national Give & Receive clothing drive Oct. 1-3 to help individuals who might be in need of clothes for the winter season. Shoppers who bring clean, gently used garments in good condition to any Stein Mart store during the Give & Receive event will receive savings on new fall fashions and much more.
