The 6th annual HAA Spring Festival to benefit Refuge House will be held Sunday, May 3rd, from Noon-5PM at Lake Ella, near Black Dog Cafe. Come be part of an afternoon filled with live music from: Eclectic Acoustic, Scott Campbell, Missus & the Walking Sticks and Bedhead Betty. Food vendors will be: 7 Hills Natural Foods, Raw Naturel and Soul Vegetarian. On Thursday, May 7, Ability 1st will host the Disaster Preparedness Conference for people with disabilities, seniors and caregivers. The conference will take place at the Tallahassee Community College Center for Economic & Workforce Development. The conference will serve as a meeting ground for government and voluntary officials, people with disabilities, seniors and caregivers to discuss ways to better prepare for and react to a natural disaster. Our involvement includes a financial sponsorship to cover 100% of the cost of materials for the house and a commitment to provide 100% of the volunteers to build the house. In twelve weeks, our staff, directors and clients dedicate over 1,000 volunteer hours to help eliminate substandard housing and homelessness in Leon and Gadsden Counties. Premier Bank has recently finished our 2008 house, but we are looking forward to our 2009 spring build which will begin in February 28, 2009.

The 57th Florida Folk Festival, a celebration of music, arts and culture held each Memorial Day weekend, will take place this May 22–24 at Stephen Foster State Park. This year, concerts by Grammy Award winner Billy Dean and guitar legend Doyle Dykes will wow crowds. Folk groups will also light up the evening programs. Eleven stages present over 300 performances spread throughout the park's spacious beauty, while artists and craftsmen create lasting memories of the weekend at the festival.
