In April 1981, Ralph Tish originally opened TLC Landscape Contractors as a secondary focus. Since he already had a federal job, Ralph viewed his new business as an opportunity to do physical work and attain extra income on the side. It wasn’t long before he realized how much he loved his start-up company and immersed himself completely.
Before taking the full time plunge into landscape maintenance and landscaping, Ralph ventured various career paths. He attained his bachelor’s degrees in sociology and recreation/physical education and proceeded to attain his master’s degrees in sociology and criminology. Staying in school a little while longer, he became a college instructor. Ralph then spent 10 years working in the federal prison service as a case manager and crisis intervention counselor. For the next 16 years, he held a clerk position at the US Postal Service; he retired in 2003, 22 years after starting TLC Landscape Contractors and pursuing industry certificates. Within the first few years of his new career, Ralph attained his certificate as a Master Gardener and also became a FL L.M.A. Certified Maintenance Operator.
TLC Landscape Contractors consists of well-experienced professionals who work with each client closely in assessing specific needs. The interaction begins with a one-on-one onsite evaluation, where the TLC professional can recommend budget-friendly solutions for the landscaping or landscape maintenance project. For clients who wish to keep their landscape in constant prime condition, TLC sets up an annual agreement with services including mowing, edging, line trimming, pruning, mulching, weed control and fertilizing. In addition, the company can honor requests for irrigation, sod installation, tractor grading, painting, carpentry, welding, debris removal, storm water management, dump truck hauling and more. TLC professionals do more than carry out services, though; they perform their job in a consistently professional manner by wearing proper attire, using the latest equipment skillfully, and maintaining a schedule that is convenient for the client.
In his spare time, Ralph loves spending time with his son and daughter, Greg and Darby, who both live and work in Tallahassee. Also, he enjoys motorcycle riding, fishing, golf, boating, and of course gardening. Ralph feels fortunate to have turned a former hobby into a fun career and looks forward to growing with Tallahassee and meeting all landscaping and landscape maintenance needs for both businesses and individuals in the area.
