In 1996, Bonnie and Tom Bartlett established Shred-It Tallahassee with two partners, one truck and no customers. 13 years later, the company has evolved into a premier, onsite document destruction service for small businesses in and around Leon County.
Bonnie first moved to Tallahassee in 1983 to attend Florida State University. There, she met and started dating Tom, a native to the area, and married him a short while later. With different backgrounds and interests out of college, Tom pursued the newspaper industry while Bonnie worked in the non-profit sector. They eventually reached a crossroads in their careers and saw a need for document destruction in Tallahassee. They jumped into Shred-It together and have enjoyed watching the company evolve since.
With its varied services, Shred-It Tallahassee protects small businesses’ sensitive information while simultaneously eliminating unnecessary shredding and recycling tasks for employees. Customers can simply drop important materials—including everything from paper documents to hard drives—in provided office consoles and call upon Shred-It staff to take and properly dispose of the contents whenever necessary. Bonnie explains that customers appreciate the company’s dependability and trustworthiness; Shred-It is NAID (National Association for Information Destruction) certified and ensures each staff member undergoes security clearance to protect the customer. Bonnie and Tom also stay personally involved in the business every day to provide optimal service.
Issues like identity theft and fraud are more prevalent than ever, and Bonnie and Tom are thankful for the opportunity to put customers’ minds at ease with the company’s document destruction services. Just as Shred-It Tallahassee has already grown so much, Bonnie anticipates it will continue evolving as the community’s needs increase.
