Seed Word Communications Weekly Inspiration
Last week, we identified a few lessons that life & leadership could learn from the game of chess. Our illustration this week is from tennis and fishing.
In tennis - especially clay-court tennis - it is not the number of times we fall that spell our defeat; it is how quickly we get up. In life & leadership, it's not how many mistakes we make or how often we fall flat on our faces. It's how quickly we get up and especially what we learn from falling.
It is very possible that we could fall so many times that we might be tempted to give up. That is when patience becomes a virtue. I have practiced a lot of patience by sitting in my boat, in the middle of the ocean, all by myself, sometimes all day, and coming home with only one of two fishes.
However, I have not given up on fishing.
By the way, while I was on assignment in South Africa for almost 3 years, my boat was sitting here and "gunking" up. So I sold it dirt cheaply 2 years ago. Now I need another boat. May 19, next month, is my 62nd birthday. So if any of you wealthy friends out there wants to make me really happy, you can donate a nice boat to me :-)
I wish all of you a very fun week.
