Salter > Mitchell: Tallahassee communications firm specializing in behavior change
To create a specific niche within the vast communications industry, April Salter and Peter Mitchell joined forces two years ago, merging Herrle Communications Group and Marketing for Change. The result, Salter>Mitchell, positions itself as a behavior-change agency in Tallahassee.
After growing up in Key West and Bermuda, April moved to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University. She loved the new area, started a family, and eagerly began establishing her career. She kicked off her communications journey as a research analyst for MGT of America and as the public information director for FEA United. She later devoted eight years to the Lawton Chiles administration, serving as communications director; upon the term’s completion, April realized she had reached the pinnacle of that particular job and wanted to start something new. In Jan. 1999, she founded Herrle Communications Group and has enjoyed watching it transition from a public relations firm to the more comprehensive firm, Salter>Mitchell.
Though Salter>Mitchell fulfills a certain niche in the Tallahassee communications community, it remains a full range integrated marketing communications firm with the capacity for public relations, advertising, research and social marketing. April explains that her clients appreciate the clean level of counsel on challenging issues, which enables the creative team to maximize support and minimize opposition. Furthermore, the seasoned staff’s ability to combine hard work and fun contributes to the firm’s overall success.
Even when out of the office, April continues to serve community members. Specifically, she is involved with several statewide and local boards including the Southern Scholarship Foundation, Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and Leon County Schools Foundation; additionally, she works with the International Rhino Foundation as a pro-bono client. In her spare time, she enjoys golfing, boating and spending time with her family.
April enjoys the opportunities afforded by the perpetually evolving communications industry. She looks forward to seeing how social media and other advancements contribute to the continued success of Salter>Mitchell and fellow industry professionals.
