Murphy’s Floor: covering your floors in Tallahassee for 10 years
Some remember it as Floors for You; others know it now as Murphy’s Floor. Regardless, the store has been serving the flooring needs of Tallahassee residents for 10 years, under the ownership of William McCue.
Native to South Florida, William moved to Tallahassee 35 years ago to attend Florida State University and has called the area home ever since. Equipped with a degree in business, he spent 25 years working for UPS and FedEx before making the plunge into an endeavor of his own. He founded Murphy’s Floor (originally named Floors for You) when the opportunity arose and has enjoyed establishing his business over the last decade.
Murphy’s Floor is a full-service floor covering store that completes wood, laminate, tile and carpet projects, in addition to bathroom and kitchen countertops. William explains that his customers most appreciate the one-on-one interaction they receive with him. There are no commission salespeople, and so prices remain lower and he can directly handle the product descriptions, free estimates and follow-ups after installation. He believes that personalized service accounts for the little advertising he has to do for the store; most of his business is generated from referrals.
William reaches out to the community and onward by working with the Animal Rescue League and by sponsoring the Special Olympics in addition to several local sports teams. In his own free time, he enjoys participating in marathons and triathlons and spending time with his wife and two sons.
Tallahassee has become William’s new hometown, and he emphasizes his love for the community and people within it. He believes the area is growing responsibly and he looks forward to continuing his working relationship in it for many years to come.
