Mike’s Moving: full service moving company for local and long distance needs
In what started as an accident, Mike Vaughn turned his former business, Mike’s Tractor Work and Hauling, into Mike’s Moving in 1991. With the former company, he found that his advertisements about the services he provided had been mistaken for typical moving services; instead of turning interested customers away, Mike bought a moving truck and started hauling furniture by request. 17 years later, Mike’s Moving has grown into the largest independently owned moving company in North Florida and South Georgia.
When Mike first opened Mike’s Moving in Tallahassee, he wanted to include long distance moves so that he could make a living while travelling the country; today, he continues to offer both local and long distance residential, commercial, and corporate moving services. Shortly after starting his business, Mike began taking classes on special moving techniques. Wanting to have skilled employees on staff, he started his own moving school within the company around 1995. Mike takes great pride in the customer service he and his well trained employees offer seven days a week. They utilize full size moving trucks to ensure that their customers’ belongings are hauled efficiently and safely. It is the goal at Mike’s Moving to accomplish a stress-free and professional transition from one location to the next. Additionally available are wholesale retail boxing and packing supplies, crates, and a good variety of anything to meet a customer’s moving needs. In 2004, the company also started offering go-mini portable storage units, which are some of the largest in Tallahassee; the storage units include translucent roofs, vented, locking roll-up door, sturdy side railing, and steel construction.
Mike’s Moving is involved with the American Moving and Storage Association, Better Business Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, and Florida Movers and Warehousemen’s Association. Also, the company sponsors Tallahassee’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition and helps with local canned food drives.
Mike’s dedication to his business and the community has undoubtedly yielded results. Mike’s Moving was the winner of the 2007 Tally Awards for the People’s Choice for Best Moving and Storage Facility. Mike believes his upside down moving truck is what initially put him on the map in Tallahassee, and he has only continued to look for ways to improve over the past 17 years. Last year, he opened an office in Jacksonville and looks forward to watching the business continue to grow both inside and outside of Tallahassee.
