For Jeanne Alexander, a savvy businesswoman who has worked countless jobs all around the country, there really is no place like home.
This April will mark the fifth year Jeanne has been her own boss in Tallahassee. She loves working full time with promotional products, but her journey started long before she opened her business, Advertising Specialties.
Jeanne spent approximately 30 years immersed in the private industry. In New England, she worked the Electronics Manufacturing sector as a corporate officer; when her husband was transferred to Los Angeles, she decided to switch to Plastics Manufacturing. She worked in the new sector all over L.A., which eventually turned into all over the country.
Jeanne’s hard work led to a particularly proud moment in her career—she was instrumental in bringing a new type of Point Of Sale retail food packaging to the U.S. market. Working with Starkist, a subsidiary of H.J. Heinz, over approximately a year and a half, she was awarded the business for Starkist Tuna’s packaging in a plastic laminated pouch. Shortly after leaving the private industry, she proudly watched a domino effect with other major food processors following this packaging trend.
By 2003, Jeanne became tiresome of all the travelling—it had gotten to the point where she was in a different location every week. Starting her own business had been of interest to her since she was 30 years old. Although a secure salary and perks of the private industry were hard to leave, Jeanne wanted satisfaction, not a buck.
In a bold move, she quit her job and took some time to reflect on what to do next. She then stumbled across promotional products and realized it fit. She could work from home for a change; she could put her 30 years of printing experience to good use; her operational experience would also come in handy in self-employment.
Thus, Advertising Specialties began, and has successfully been growing for almost five years. Jeanne has approximately 750,000 items, including but not limited to, apparel, food, technology, sporting equipment, office/desk products, and writing instruments.
Promotional products are only a portion of what Jeanne offers, though. She promises to build and maintain trust by demonstrating high personal integrity in relationships; she promises to focus on the success of clients’ objectives and to endeavor to meet each goal with commitment; finally, she promises to share creative ideas and cost saving measures and to be open and honest in all communication. Clients appreciate Jeanne’s sincere interest in their undertakings as well as her efforts to anticipate their needs.
Jeanne’s success stems from her passion in sales and helping people. While her work is rewarding, she gains immense satisfaction from her personal life as well. She is married to her high school sweetheart and together they enjoy playing bridge and golf. They have a married son living in Arkansas and two grandchildren in Los Angeles.
Personally and professionally, Jeanne is also an active member of the community. She is the visitor host for Business Networking International, an associate member of TSAE, involved in the Leads Group 6 for the Chamber of Commerce, and has volunteered for the National Alliance of Mental Illness.
Jeanne is no doubt a busy woman. She believes that to do something really well, you have to be passionate about it and pursue it with intensity. Perhaps it is that work ethic that has brought her success and satisfaction. She finds that with her business, she wakes up every morning excited to get right to work.
Her positive attitude applies to both the present and the future. Jeanne believes if you have enough solid relationships and truly enjoy helping others, there will always be a hand to help you.
