GroupFit Studio: Fitness Made Fun in Tallahassee
Tallahassee residents may know Sherman Rosier as owner of Fit & Functional, a private fitness studio established since 2000. About a year ago, however, he took his passion for health and fitness a bit further by introducing a second interactive opportunity to the local scene: GroupFit Studio.
Born and raised in Tallahassee, Sherman developed an early interest in physical therapy that provided the foundation for his career. After completing his degree, he attained his post-rehabilitation certification and became a NSCA certified personal trainer, NSTA certified running coach and certified nutrition specialist, to name a few of his many professional accomplishments. He opened Fit & Functional to help educate, motivate and guide individuals to a healthier lifestyle and today continues to carry out that mission through GroupFit Studio.
GroupFit Studio offers everything from specialized and children-focused programs to group classes. The 14 different classes include pilates, kickboxing, yoga, urban ballet, tribal fusion bellydance and more. Individuals looking for more extensive work-out endeavors can sign up for FitCamp, a six week program that focuses on weight loss and higher level of fitness, EZ8 Running, an eight week running camp for women, or one of the other options listed on the studio’s website. Sherman emphasizes that the goal of GroupFit is not only to make fitness fun, but to help individuals develop relationships with trainers and other workout buddies who can serve as support systems.
To generate excitement and involvement throughout Tallahassee, Sherman hosts a free community fitness day at GroupFit once a month. Additionally, he offers a different fitness event outside the studio every quarter; a recent example includes a hike at a state park.
Sherman has been helping area residents improve their fitness and health for nine years now, and he looks forward to continuing his passion in the future. He explains that there is still a huge potential to reach more people and he hopes to eventually expand his studio to other cities.
