In 1963, Jane and Earl Bacon established the Earl Bacon Agency to provide business and family insurance services for Floridians in need. Interested in the goals and range of services of the Tallahassee-based, independent insurance agency, Van Madsen enthusiastically accepted a position there 16 years ago. Since then, he has moved up the ladder and currently serves as a commercial lines manager.

Growing up in Hollywood, Florida, Van learned a lot about the insurance industry through family business connections. He developed an interest in the profession and later moved to Tallahassee and attained his bachelor’s degree in Risk Management. He then entered the industry with a job at an independent agency, where he did insurance for large, commercial accounts. In 1993, Van received an appealing offer from Earl Bacon Agency, and therefore joined the company with the same job function. Just four years later, Van moved into a management role and has only grown to appreciate his industry and company more as time has passed.

Earl Bacon Agency covers all areas of insurance including homeowners, automobile, life and health, workers’ compensation, professional liability, and business and property protection. Van explains that despite the long list of insurance services, the company’s most valuable asset is the peace of mind it offers its clients. No matter the situation, the professional staff members work to find the best risk management solution to the specific issue. Van emphasizes the importance of clients knowing they will be protected adequately. The company believes that when the best interest of the client is met, everything else falls into place.

The company and its individual staff members strive to stay civic-minded. They are heavily involved in United Way, Rotary, ECHO and many other worthy causes. Van has also served as president and on the board of directors with Independent Insurance Agents of Tallahassee (IIAT). In his free time, Van enjoys golfing, traveling, and spending time with his wife of 23 years and their son.

Still an avid fan of the company after 16 years, Van believes Earl Bacon Agency fills a necessary role and accomplishes a lot in the current economy. He feels fortunate to work at a place where employees are appreciated and clients are treated with respect. Van looks forward to many years ahead of serving others through his insurance services and civic work.
