Digital Property Documentation: recording inventory to give peace of mind
Most will recall the fires in California a few years ago. Countless individuals lost their homes and possessions that could never be replaced, like pictures and family heirlooms. Seeing all those people suffer, Jeff Stump got the idea to start a business that could lessen the sting of such tragedies. In December of 2007, he opened Digital Property Documentation to help Tallahassee residents keep a record of their property.
A native of Wyoming, Jeff didn’t leave his state until after high school; as a graduation gift, he received a motorcycle and consequently decided to spend a few years travelling across the country. In 1987, he moved to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University and has made the area his new home. Up until recently, Jeff spent his entire life in the Hospitality Industry. He managed several restaurants in town but wanted to do something that could really help people in a unique way; with his new business, Digital Property Documentation, that desire has become a reality.
The purpose of Jeff’s company is to digitally document personal and business property—mainly for insurance purposes but also to retain intrinsic values that cannot be replaced if lost in some disaster. The company does not sell insurance or do appraisals. Rather, it creates a record of all inventory so that clients can be aware of their assets in case an insurance claim is needed. Jeff explains that oftentimes, the stress of a disaster will make it nearly impossible for people to remember everything they own, and will have a difficult time knowing what to claim. It is the goal of Digital Property Documentation to keep record of that information for the client so that he/she has one less thing to worry about after the disaster. The company takes digital videos and stills and keeps copies in a secure vault so that there is always a backup; additionally, it provides invisible ink to clients for theft purposes.
The company is a member of Business and Professional Women’s Association and the Chamber of Commerce; additionally, as the business is still new, Jeff spends time networking with other professionals. In his free time, he enjoys sailing, kayaking, camping, fishing, biking, and photography.
Jeff recognizes that amidst a disaster, stress levels are higher than ever. Through his work, he is able to eliminate at least one aspect of that stress and give the individual some peace of mind. He looks forward to serving others through Digital Property Documentation for years to come.
