Carpet One Floor and Home: covering all flooring needs
In 1961, T. Lynn Wollschlager used his experience in business and floor covering to start The Carpet Shop in Tallahassee. Later in 1987, the store became affiliated with Carpet One Floor and Home, the largest retail organization for floor covering in the world. T. Lynn takes pride in his early involvement with the co-op—his store is the 79th of over 1100 stores. The store has benefited from the lower prices and better products associated with Carpet One Floor and Home, but has still been able to retain its independence in Tallahassee.
T. Lynn knew he was headed in a business-oriented direction early in life. He graduated from Florida State University in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in Business and worked at his father’s dry cleaning business. The experience he acquired with carpet cleaning landed him a job in the floor covering department at Sears. Although it was a difficult area to work in and required a lot of expertise, he enjoyed the challenge. Soon enough, he was starting his own business, which at the time was only the second specialty store in Tallahassee.
The business has a lot to offer the community on both a products and service level. Carpet One Floor and Home includes selections of carpet, hardwood, ceramic tile, linoleum, laminate, window treatment coverage and more. What really sets this business apart, though, is the quality installation and life-time warranties. T. Lynn also believes the expertise among his sales associates really holds everything together; he thinks of his employees as family, and they all work as a team.
Emphasizing that his business is community oriented, T. Lynn does more than take care of his customers and employees; he ensures the company’s involvement in Tallahassee. As a personal graduate from Leon High School, T. Lynn continues to avidly support the foundation. Over the years he has also been involved with the Tallahassee 100 club, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Tallahassee and Florida Builders Associations, Florida State University Alumni Boosters, and Children’s Home Society to name just a few.
T. Lynn loves serving the community and his customers. T. Lynn believes that staying active in the community and keeping standards high are instrumental in ensuring success. His son, David, who has been working with him for 15 years and is currently president, will continue to implement these values as the years progress.
