Since its establishment in the early 1900s, Associated General Contractors of Greater Florida has striven to uphold and improve the standards of commercial and general construction building markets throughout the state. In March 2006, Bill Spann joined the trade association’s Florida chapter as president and CEO and brought with him a wide array of skills and expertise.
Immediately before accepting the position with AGC’s Greater Florida Chapter, Bill served on Governor Jeb Bush’s executive leadership team as Chief of Staff for the Florida Department of Children and Families. During his three years with the state agency, he was entrusted as a key advisor and was heavily involved in all major policy decisions, routine and emergency operations. Also in the Navy, Bill achieved a ranking as Commander and served as Director of Public Relations at the Naval Academy for three years. Throughout his 20 years of military involvement, he served in several active combat areas and later received recognition as a multi-award winning media relations and crisis communications expert. Bill’s diverse and expansive life experiences have all contributed to his success as president and CEO of AGC’s Greater Florida Chapter today. Over the past few years, he has achieved considerable membership growth and financial improvement and has been recognized with two national performance awards.
AGC’s Greater Florida Chapter is an organization of general contractors and associated companies committed to promoting skill, integrity, and responsibility within the industry. With those three elements in mind, the association offers various services and benefits including legislative advocacy, educational seminars, safety programs, networking, products, publications and more. Bill emphasizes that the chapter works hard and provides members with what they need; by fully dedicating itself to the wellbeing of its members and their employees, the AGC’s Greater Florida Chapter strives to be the organization of choice for general contractors and all other associated construction industries. Currently, the association serves 70 percent of Florida’s counties.
Though he is undoubtedly dedicated to his career, Bill keeps his family a priority as well. He and his wife, Judi, are the parents of two teenagers, Dylan and Kirstin. The family enjoys camping and other outdoor activities like off-road motorcycling. Additionally, Bill serves as a Certified Guardian ad Litem in Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit in Leon County and is involved with the Boy Scouts and Tallahassee Society of Association Executives.
During his few years with Associated General Contractors of Greater Florida, Bill has enjoyed seeing the organization and members’ businesses grow. He looks forward to continued expansion in the future and urges those in the industry to join as members and see the benefits first hand.
