Another Broken Egg Café first opened in Louisiana in 1996, but has since spread throughout the southeast to 13 locations. In October of 2000, Mike Schmidt introduced the restaurant to Tallahassee. As owner and manager of the third store in the franchise, Mike has spent the last eight and a half years happily serving the community breakfast and lunch.
Though he was born in Michigan as number 12 of 15 children, Mike was raised in Tallahassee from early childhood and has no intention of leaving. He worked at Publix for 12 years and then attempted to working for the state; the latter position was not the match he sought and so he decided to instead buy a bread distributorship with a five year plan. As the five years came to a close, Mike wanted to find a new challenge. That is when he found the Egg in Destin, Fl. He opened Another Broken Egg Café in his hometown and finally found a perfect fit. He has been dedicated to that endeavor ever since.
Another Broken Egg Café is a full service breakfast and lunch restaurant. Catering for evening events is also offered. There are 135 items on the menu, all of which are made fresh. Mike explains that customers appreciate the fresh quality and quantity of food they receive for their money. Committed to ensuring the highest customer satisfaction, he emphasizes the restaurant motto: nothing short of right is right. Mike attributes the success of the business to his staff’s careful attention to detail.
When he is not serving customers, Mike makes sure to provide his services to the community he loves as well. He donates food to many charities and churches ever year. He is also a partner in excellence for five schools and is on the board of the Restaurant Lodging Association. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife of 16 years, Flo, and their daughter and son. He also loves golf and sports in general.
After spending years of searching, Mike has finally found a job that fits him. He loves interacting with the public on a daily basis at Another Broken Egg Café. In the future, he looks forward to opening an additional location in Tallahassee and continuing to serve the community he has always considered home.
